In the 1931 World Series, the Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Athletics in 7 games. (The Athletics would later move to Kansas City and eventually to Oakland to become the Oakland Athletics.)

The Cards had lost the Series to the Athletics in 1930. This victory would avenge their loss from the year before and give them them their second World Series Championship.

The Cardinals third World Series was won in 1934 when they defeated the Detroit Tigers in 7 games. The last game of this series was played in Detroit and the Cards embarrassed the Tigers by shutting them out by a score of 11 to 0.
The 1942 Cardinals were led by Stan “the Man” Musial. Stan Musial and the rest of the St. Louis Cardinals were matched up against the New York Yankees in the 1942 World Series. The Cardinals took care of the Yankees in 5 games which gave them their fourth World Series title.

In the 1944 World Series, the St. Louis Cardinals were matched up against the St. Louis Browns. The Cards won the Series in 6 games giving them their fifth World Series title.

The St. Louis Browns later moved to Baltimore and became the Baltimore Orioles.

Two years after the Cardinals won the 1944 World Series, they won their sixth World Championship by beating the Boston Red Sox in the 1946 World Series.

One of the highlights of this series came in the eighth inning of the seventh game. Enos Slaughter was on first base with the score tied at 3 to 3.

A double was hit to center field and Enos Slaughter ran all the way home to score. This run would end up winning the series for the Cardinals.

From 1947 to 1963 the Cardinals failed to win a National League Championship and therefore, were unable to make it into the Series. This would change in 1964. The Cardinals acquired Lou Brock who replaced Stan Musial who had retired at the end of the previous season.

With Lou Brock and pitcher Bob Gibson, the Cards won the 1964 World Series against the New York Yankees in 7 games. This ended their World Series drought and gave them their seventh World Championship. Bob Gibson was named MVP.

In 1967 with pitcher Bob Gibson still on the team, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Boston Red Sox to win their eighth World Series title. This was the Cardinals second World Series victory over the Red Sox. Bob Gibson was again named Series MVP. The following year he won a Cy Young Award and was also named the 1968 National League MVP.

In 1982 with Whitey Herzog at the Helm and newly acquired shortstop Ozzie Smith on the team, the St. Louis Cardinals secured their ninth World Championship by beating the Milwaukee Brewers in 7 games.

The 2006 World Series was a match up between the St Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. This was the third time that the Tigers would play the Cardinals in the World Series. Although the Detroit Tigers were favored to win, manager Tony La Russa and the St. Louis Cardinals were able to defeat the Tigers in 5 games. This would give the Cardinals their tenth World Series Championship.

In the 2011 World Series the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers in 7 games. In game 6,  the Rangers were leading the series 3 games to 2. They were 1 strike away from winning the World Series 2 different times in extra innings. The Cardinals managed to hang on and win the game. This forced game 7 which the Cardinal won
by a score of 6 to 2, giving them their eleventh World Series Championship. David Freese was named World Series MVP.
