In
1905 with John McGraw as manager, the New York Giants defeated the
Philadelphia Athletics in 5 games to win their first World Series. (The
Philadelphia Athletics would eventually move to Oakland, CA and become
the Oakland Athletics.)
The
New York Giants won back to back World Series titles in 1921 and 1922.
John McGraw was still manager of the team at that time and both Series
were played against the New York Yankees.
The
New York Giants fourth World Series Championship was won against the
Washington Senators in 1933. Bill Terry was manager of the team.
In 1954, team manager
Leo Durocher and the New York Giants swept the Cleveland Indians in 4
straight games to win their fifth World Series title. One of the most
memorable plays of the Series was when Willlie Mays made an incredible
running catch close to the wall. This was on a long drive that was hit
by Indians player Vic Wertz.
The 1954 World Series was the first time that the Cleveland Indians
lost 4 straight games in a World Series without winning any games. At
the beginning of the Series, the Indians were heavily favored to win
the Championship.
In
2010 the San Francisco Giants defeated the Texas Rangers in 5 games to
win their sixth overall World Series title and their first World
Championship since moving to San Francisco. Bruce Bochy was the winning
manager.
