The Minnesota Twins play in the Central Division of the American League. They play their home games at Target Field in Minneapolis, MN. The Minnesota Twins franchise has been in the World Series 6 times and they have won 3 World Series Championships.

They won their first World Series in 1924 when they were known as the Washington Senators. In the 1924 World Series they defeated the New York Giants in 7 games. (The New York Giants would later move to San Francisco and become the San Francisco Giants. The Washington Senators moved to Minnesota and became the Minnesota Twins in 1961. After the franchise moved to Minnesota, an expansion team was created in Washington D.C. that was also called the Washington Senators. This team eventually moved to Texas and became the Texas Rangers.)

The Minnesota Twins won their second World Series title in 1987 when they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in 7 games. Their third World Series title came in 1991 against the Atlanta Braves where they also won in 7 games.

There have been several notable players on the team over the years. Twins pitchers Jim Perry and Jim Kaat helped the Twins win the American League pennant in 1965. Also on the team at the time were Rod Carew, Bob Allison, Harmon Killebrew, Zoilo Versalles and Tony Oliva.

Other Notable Minnesota Twins players include: Bert Blyleven, Frank Viola, Kirby Puckett and Kent Hrbek. They were some of the star players that were on the Twins teams that won the Series in 1987 and 1991.

Jack Morris was the Twins star pitcher in the 1991 World Series in which he pitched a 10 inning shutout in the 7th game against the Atlanta Braves.

Many Minnesota Twins fans consider the 1991 World Series to be the Twins greatest World Series victory of all time and one of the greatest World Series ever played.

There are a number of unique facts about this series of games:

The Twins won all four of their home games in Minnesota and the Braves won all three of their home games in Atlanta. Three of the games were won in extra innings and four of the games were won in the final at bat.

The seventh game of the series was tied at zero after all 9 innings. Jim Morris of the Twins was credited with pitching a 10 inning shutout when the Twins scored a run in the bottom of the tenth inning thereby winning the game and the series 4 games to 3.
