The Baltimore Orioles
play in the Eastern Division of the American League. They first started
playing Major League Baseball in 1901 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the
Milwaukee Brewers. After only playing for one year in Milwaukee they
moved to St. Louis where they were known as the St. Louis Browns. They
finally moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1954 and became the Baltimore
Orioles.
There
had been two other teams that played as the Baltimore Orioles in
earlier years. One of the teams moved to New York and became the New
York Yankees of the American League. The other team also moved to New
York and became the New York Giants of the National League. They
eventually moved to San Francisco and became the San Francisco Giants.
The
Baltimore Orioles have played in the World Series seven times and they
have won the World Series three times. In 1966 they swept the Los
Angeles Dodgers in four straight games. In 1970 the beat the Cincinnati
Reds four games to one. And in 1983 they beat the Philadelphia Phillies
four games to one.

Famous players that have played for the Baltimore Orioles include:
Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Cal RipkenJr. and Jim Palmer. Brooks
Robinson won the MVP in 1964, Brooks Robinson won the MVP in 1966 and
Cal Ripken Jr. won the MVP in 1983 and 1991. Jim Palmer helped lead the
Orioles to the World Series Championship in 1966 and 1983.
The
Orioles have struggled in recent years, but their fans remain hopeful
that they can soon return to their former glory. |
